Tyson Foods has dropped its contract with an Oklahoma hog farm after an animal rights group said it videotaped alleged abuse at the farm.
The graphic video, which activist group Mercy For Animals posted to its website, showed workers at West Coast Farms kicking pigs and slamming piglets to the ground.
NBC News showed the video to Tyson Foods, the nation's largest meat producer, and the company immediately terminated its contract with the supplier.
Mercy For Animals said an undercover worker recorded the video over the course of a month ending in mid-October, according to NBC.
The owner of the farm, Lonnie Herring, said he fired the employees shown in the video.
"I was stunned that anyone could be that callous in their treatment of any animal," Herring told NBC.
Tyson released a statement saying the company is "extremely disappointed by the mistreatment shown in the video and will not tolerate this kind of animal mishandling."
"We are immediately terminating our contract with this farmer and will take possession of the animals remaining on the farm," the company said. "We’re serious about proper animal handling and expect the farmers who supply us to treat animals with care and to be trained and certified in responsible animal care practices."
