Filmmaker David Lynch has designed Club Silencio, a Paris nightclub based on the venue in his 2001 thriller Mulholland Drive starring Naomi Watts. Located at 142 rue de Montmartre, Club Silencio is Paris’s first private members’ club.

The club owner Arnaud Frisch, who started the Social Club and music label Savoir Faire, plans for a private venue from 6 pm to midnight, that opens to non-members from midnight to 6 am.

The concept is devoted to all things cultural, like a ‘salon’ for international creative exchanges with concerts, screenings and literary events. Located on Rue Monmartre, the space will house a bar, restaurant, performance stage, art library and cinema.

Lynch also designed the furniture with Raphael Navot. The director’s previous designs appeared in his 1996 film Lost Highway and his mid-century minimalist tables have been sold by Swiss company Casanostra.

“I’m 65 years old,” David Lynch told Paola Genone from L’Express. “They say that when men go into their 50s they dream of building gigantic towers to prove their virility. I have directed films, composed music, made all sorts of objects, works that had a beginning and an end. Now I want to make something solid.

“First, I started with painting. For the last three years I have been working in a lithographic studio in Montparnasse that Picasso and Miró used, drawing on the same stones where they painted. Then I started working on Silencio, which has taken the last two years. Looking at what we have done, I feel myself almost immortal,” he said.

“I have the feeling that I have coaxed out some of the atmosphere and the characters from my films, and even from my music.”
